The Wind Wuthering - Emily Bronte

"Les Hauts de Wuthering Heights "is the only novel by Emily Bronte English, published in 1847 the same year as the no less famous " Jane Eyre " written by her sister Charlotte Bronte.

Mr Earnshaw, a widower, lives at Wuthering Heights with her two children, Catherine and Hindley. One evening, while returning from travel, he brings with him a young boy, Heathcliff, whom he quickly shows more affection than her own children.
If this newcomer continues to fuel the jealousy of Hindley, Catherine she accepted the second brother to the point that both are rapidly becoming inseparable.
Hindley is sent to a college for a period of 3 years old, married and returned to his father's death. Always animated by a deep jealousy vis-à-vis Heathcliff he considered a vulgar bohemian, it enjoys under householder all the latitude necessary to transfer his nemesis in the servants' quarters and away from her sister.
Supported by his wife, Hindley manages to make his sister a young society woman who is soon to marry the son of their tenants, Edgar Linton.
Wounded by this marriage, Heathcliff leaves the house and then returns to learn that he has always been the favorite in the heart of Catherine.
After it dies giving birth to her daughter Catherine (ca), Heathcliff is taken from a visceral hatred towards the husband's brother and he promises to avenge the worst way ...

"The Wuthering Wind", a title that could be that of a horror film! Damn what a story ... So dark concentrated in a single novel! Characters each more self-centered and tortured each other (with the exception of Nelly Dean, the courageous woman who definitely did not support the language in his pocket), the prize going to the obviously odious Heathcliff!
In a region that seems crossed by only one season, two houses located within 4 miles of each other are the scene of a fresco family that spans four decades of incessant quarrels made between 3 generations all the more impulsive than the other.
Women are capricious, manipulative and hysterical men violent, greedy and devoid of moral sense and children are relegated to mere instrument loaded to satisfy the vengeance of their elders.
the center and origin of all this hatred, Heathcliff and the absolute desire for revenge that turns into a curse falling on his enemies before they see their offspring.
It is through the story of Nelly Dean, the only mother figure, a witness, arbitrator and often complicit in this madness despite her room, the story unfolds.
This reflects a dark atmosphere made by both the description of a framework and sets sad (this gloomy weather that never ends, these houses left to the moods of its inhabitants) as the lack of joy and affection shown by the characters in this infernal camera.
course, Emily Bronte's style is elegant as is known to be the writing of his time, but it is all the more striking because it offers a picture so grim human being through dialogues biting between the protagonists that continue to wish one another to perish in hell and take undisguised pleasure to watch suffer. Lovely, is not it?
" I know exactly what he suffers now, for example, it is also a simple foretaste of what he suffers.
It will never be able to climb out of its abyss of coarseness and ignorance. I wish I was better than her rascally father, and I did go lower, because it boasts of its stupor. I learned to despise him as a folly and weakness all that is not purely animal.
Do not you think Hindley would be proud that his son, if he could see? Almost as proud as I am mine. But there is a difference: one is gold used as paving stone, the other tin polished to play a money service. Mine has no value in itself, yet I have the merit of pushing as far as a so poor wretch can go.
Hers had the qualities of the first order, they are lost, I've made more than useless, disastrous. Me, I have nothing to regret, he, he regretted that more than that either. "p.263

And all this comes from a love story between Heathcliff and Catherine prevented? At the risk of attracting the ire of readers sensitive to links between those two, I would rather speak of complicity (unhealthy) than of love to describe the nature of this relationship.
course, Heathcliff and Catherine are certainly cut from the same bark, both seemed to draw the same delight in manipulate and make fun of their environment, but they do not show more charitable toward one another.

"It would degrade me myself now than marry Heathcliff. Also do know he never like I love him and this not because he's handsome, Nelly, but because he is more myself than I am. From whatever our souls are made, his and mine are the same, and that of Linton is as different from ours as a moonbeam from lightning or frost from fire. "p.111

Many lives could have been preserved if both had the nobility of soul not to leave their selfishness contaminate innocent but we must admit that without the drama that was their initial separation, "Les Hauts de Hurle-Vent" would not be what they are ...

" But treachery and violence are spears pointed at both ends, they hurt those who use them more seriously than their enemies. " p.216

I wanted to develop this further but note that say that has not already been said about this novel? We will explain the beautiful long, wide and across, in turn evoke the tragedies that it houses, the report characterized by romantic and Gothic currents, to find similarities with "Romeo and Juliet" or "Jane Eyre", the fact remains that "Wuthering Wind" is essentially a singular novel, as exciting fresh ideas, it is necessary to find its own eyes.
Mine were a little hard to recover, I must admit.

Go, nothing like that to finish this post by a musical note! A tribute to the novel (and a choreography that always makes me laugh)!

"The Wuthering Wind" has been a common understanding with Galipette and Lili Anne I read queue Tickets!
